American Board of Intelligence Analysts (ABIA)

American Board of Intelligence Analysts (ABIA)is news to me! Opinions?

"Our Mission: To enhance the quality of the intelligence life cycle by certifying intelligence analysts and intelligence practitioners to include law enforcement officers, fusion center coordinators, members of the military, security professionals, and corporate stakeholders who demonstrate the knowledge, skills, attitudes essential for excellence, and the review, interpretation, and assessment of intelligence through various levels of specialized training and sharing of best practices among their respective organizations."

  1. Interesting, they have a "Sensitive Security Information" class. Assuming they mean SSI as defined by 14 CFR Part 1520, (http://law.justia.com/us/cfr/title49/49-9.1.3.4.7.html) I think it is important to note that this isn't recognized official training by TSA or DHS, the main producers and users of SSI information. I am not saying it isn't good training (I no clue one way or the other), I just wanted it to be clear to readers that this isn't officially endorsed.

If they mean SSI in a non-federal way, then I have no input whatsoever.

  2. Just one person's opinion, but as with any professional credential, its credibility and usefulness is driven by the rigor of its certification process and the intellectual leadership of its directors. To learn more about the ABIA, one might consider looking more deeply into its parent organization: "American College of Forensic Examiners International." At this point, the website indicates that the "Advisory Board" is "coming soon." The website states that their mission involves "certifying intelligence analysts and intelligence practitioners", but the criteria and review process for such certification is not completely clear - at least to me. They do apparently offer "Certification Classes," but I'm not sure whether these classes are either a necessary or sufficient basis to qualify for their certification credential. I would be very interested to know what other folks in the community are thinking about this after reviewing their website.
