According to the Second Life Economy Blog, from 2007 to 2008 - "total user to user transactions, a measure of the gross domestic product in Second Life, grew from an annualized rate of $261 million in Q4 to just over $300 million in Q1."
After a federal investigation Second Life had to ban gambling.
Congress has feared that Second Life could be used to launder money to fund terrorism.
