A point of clarification for anyone reading the article. In the second section, the authors write: “The arrival of intelligence-led policing (ILP) can be traced to a single event: the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States”, and they cite my book. Very kind of them to do so; however what they say isn’t the case, and my book doesn’t say that. In ‘Intelligence-Led Policing’ I point out that intelligence-led policing has roots that stretch back further, and to well before the seminal Audit Commission (UK) report ‘Helping With Enquiries: Tackling Crime Effectively’ from 1993. The work of NCIS in the UK, building on the pioneering work in Kent, was all well underway before the new century had begun.
